About Tree Planting

23. How can you plant a real tree for just $1 ?

Tree planting is done in large volumes by our tree planting partners. The process starts with germination of seeds and the planting of seedlings. We do not plant adult trees because that does not benefit the environment, it only wastes fuel to change the location of a tree.

24. How do I know that you planted a tree in the real world?

Mokugift works with reputable nonprofit organizations in the environmental community. For example, Sustainable Harvest International has a four out of four stars rating by Charity Navigator, America's largest independent charity evaluator. Sustainable Harvest field trainers regularly monitor tree-planting families that they work with. Double checks are also made by regional co-coordinators and program directors.

Mokugift also works with Trees For the Future, an organization that has planted 50M trees since 1989. Trees for the Future has long been a member of Coop America, the National Peace Corps Association, and the Aid to Africa Federation of the Combined Federal Campaign. Trees For The Future has won the following awards: THE INTERNATIONAL AWARD, National Arbor Day Foundation (1990), EARTH TRUSTEESHIP AWARD, The Earth Society (1994), and GREEN GLOBE Commendation Winner (1999).

About mokugift the company

29. Is mokugift a nonprofit

Mokugift is NOT a nonprofit. We exist in a category called social entrepreneurship that measures our success in terms of customer experience, profit AND tangible, positive benefit to the environment. We work closely with non-profits that have experience and expertise in sustainable tree planting and environmental practices.

Our revenues go towards the production and evolution of the whole mokugift experience: from the moment you send a tree gift to the moment a tree is planted in the real world. The portion of each tree purchase sent to a non-profit varies. The remaining portion goes to our employee salaries, marketing costs, operation costs and research and development.
