The program is similar to chocolate bar sales. However, instead of delivering chocolate, real trees are planted in Central America, Africa and Asia. Supporters purchase trees online and can instantly display on facebook that they have planted trees in support of your school and our planet.
The Mokugift Fundraising Program is provided by mokugift, a tree planting partner of the Billion Tree Campaign, lead by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The Billon Tree Campaign is calling upon every person on our planet to plant one tree at least one tree each (12 billion in total to start).
How It Works
1. The campaign leader creates a Fund Page for your school in a few minutes (input title, logo, funding goal, description and optional images)
2. The campaign leader easily informs students, parents, guardians and friends about the Fund Page via email or facebook
3. Students, parents, guardians and friends can instantly start promoting the Fund Page via email, instant messenger, and facebook
4. Supporters visit your school's Fund Page and purchase trees. They can instantly display on facebook that they planted trees in support of your school
5. Mokugift sends half of the gross proceeds to your school ($0.50 of each $1)

About Mokugift
Mokugift trees are planted in agroforestry programs that educate local farmers about environmentally beneficial and economically sustainable farming techniques. Mokugift gives everyone the opportunity to plant a tree and to inspire others to follow in their steps to bettering our planet. Mokugift has been mentioned in the following media:
Where and How we plant trees?
Award-winning nonprofit organizations specializing in agroforestry projects—which restore depleted lands and boost the agricultural productivity and incomes of indigenous peoples in some of the poorest parts of the world—plant the actual trees purchased via mokugift. Mokugift trees are planted in 12 tropical countries: Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Burundi, Senegal, Zambia, India, Philippines and Haiti. Species include Cocoa, Coffee, Banana, Orange, Cedar, Teak, Mahogany, Oak, Acacia, Eucalyptus, Laurel and Leucaena.

Academic research by Dr. Govindasamy Bala of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory shows that trees planted in tropical zones are most effective in mitigating climate change. His study covered the effects of carbon dioxide absorption, reflection of solar radiation and reflection of solar radiation from increased cloudiness. He also accounted for the warming effect of heat held by absorbed sunlight.
"Our study shows that tropical forests are very beneficial to the climate because they take up carbon and increase cloudiness, which in turn helps cool the planet," explained Dr. Bala. "The further you move from the equator, though, these gains are eroded; and the team's modeling predicts that planting more trees in mid- and high-latitude locations could lead to a net warming of a few degrees by the year 2100."
